Coronation Street star confirms Shona and David Platt’s ‘turbulent’ future amid crossover jeopardy
They have been confirmed to be involved in an upcoming multi-vehicle smash that rocks Weatherfield and the Emmerdale village
Coronation Street star Julia Goulding has revealed that Shona and David Platt are set for a ‘turbulent’ future as they have been confirmed to be involved in an upcoming multi-vehicle smash that rocks Weatherfield and the Emmerdale village.
Fans of both ITV soaps know that a historic crossover is on the way, and this week, the 40-strong cast list for the hour-long episode, dubbed Corriedale, that is set to kick off the network’s new ‘soap power hour’, was confirmed.
To mark the change, which will see Emmerdale and Corrie air in half-hour instalments every weeknight, producers, scriptwriters and production teams on both shows have conceived an ingenious way of linking the two universes, with characters then returning to the soaps they are renowned for inhabiting in Manchester and Yorkshire.
However, the horror that unfolds will link them forever, as it was previously revealed that a catastrophic multi-vehicle pile-up would be at the centre of the drama, leaving the lives of those from the cobbles and the Dales at risk.
In the chaotic aftermath, characters from both shows calling for help in the darkness as the emergency services arrive at the scene on a country road near the village of Hotten. Among those at risk are David and a pregnant Shona, who has already been told that her unborn child, a baby girl, has a tumour and that she’d have to undergo a complicated, high-risk surgery if she wanted to carry the pregnancy to full term.

As seen in a new atmospheric promo, we see that an injured David and Shona are tended to at the roadside by Emmerdale paramedic Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) – but Julia wasn’t able to give much away when speaking to the Manchester Evening News at the premiere of Corriedale, at The National Science and Media Museum in Bradford, the UK City of Culture 2025, on Tuesday (December 16).
When asked what she could tease, the actress admitted: “Absolutely nothing!” On how difficult it was to film, she continued: “You know what, it wasn’t that bad! We had five weeks of a night shoot, so I think I did about three of them, me and Jack [P Shepherd, who plays David]….
“But yeah, you know what? It was quite pleasant. Because once you’re on that time of six at night or six in the morning, because everybody’s with you doing it, it doesn’t really feel like it’s a night shoot. I mean, yeah, we had moments of tiredness and then you just jam a load of Haribos in your mouth and you’re fine – and obviously tea.”

While viewers will have to wait and see what happens to David and Shone in Corriedale, Julia did tease the future – while still being sworn to secrecy. Asked what’s to come afterwards, she said: “Literally loads, but I can’t, I’m not allowed to tell you. I am not allowed.!”
She then shared: “They have got an extremely turbulent time coming up. And who knows if they’ll get through it. But the weirdest thing is, I think they are at such a strong place in their relationship at the moment and I think you have to make it super, super strong to have other stuff happen off it.” Julia then cried; “I can’t say anything!”
